Bridging studies at THWS: concluding conference

In accordance with the motto “Build what builds you up!”, students presented their diverse and creative projects

Whenever projects dear to the creator's heart take shape, something amazing takes shape: This was proven by students of the bridging studies at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) last week. With their creative ideas and commitment, they sent a powerful signal according to the motto "Build what builds you up!". The concluding conference took place at the 360°BASE – Zentrum für Gründung und Nachfolge of the Sparkasse Mainfranken Würzburg and attracted an audience of about 80 people.

Insights into creative projects

In a poster tour the 28 students presented their project ideas, which they had developed and concretised during the winter semester 2024/25. The presented topics ranged from the development of a creative platform, to writing a novel, to a workshop for improving mental health in schools.

"The variety of the projects highlights how diverse the students' backgrounds and interests are. This diversity in particular is what we consider exciting as it unites people who might otherwise not talk to each other. Therefore, the bridging studies do not only promote creativity, creative drive, and their ability to implement projects, they also serve a social function," says Dr. Felix Liedel, research associate in the bridging studies programme.

In-depth project presentations

In addition, a supporting programme organised by the students provided insights. Some of them took the opportunity to present their personal project work in more detail. One of them was Neele Teich, who presented her vision of a first join-in supermarket for Würzburg with her project "Hand in Hand Wirtschaften". She also explained in what ways the bridging studies helped her in realising her project. Dr. Margaret Jestremski also excited the audience with her idea to make the culture area of Würzburg available to experience. She has recorded audio files that serve as acoustic tours through the city and can be found at various locations. Marcellus Barth shared his basis ideas on reaching targets easily ("Wie Ziele dir zufliegen") by talking about how to overcome obstacles in order to reach your goal.

An inspiring format

The concluding conference emphasises the advantages of the bridging studies in an impressive way: They provide space for creativity, networking, and practical implementation. To many students, the bridging studies do not mark an end but rather a start for further developing their ideas. The next bridging studies start in summer semester 2025. They last between one to two semesters. If you are interested, you can register for winter semester 2025/26.
