THWS welcomes delegation from India: Ten years of strategic cooperation with the partner university in Bangalore

India Day: THWS celebrates anniversary of their partnership with R.V. College of Engineering

Ten-year anniversary of a strategic university partnership: Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) and R. V. College of Engineering (RVCE) in Bangalore, India, look back on ten years of cooperation. To honour the occasion, the THWS International Office (HSIN) organised an "India Day" and invited members of RVCE.

In the morning, THWS President Professor Dr. Jean Meyer met with a delegation of RVCE, for whom the International Office (HSIN) ran an anniversary celebration event. RVCE President Professor Dr. K. N. Subramanya, Nikhil Alampalli Murthy, Professor Dr. Nataraj J. R., Professor Dr. Vikram N. B., and Professor Dr. Badrinath K. formed the delegation "We maintain close contact with this partner university. This does not only benefit our students but also our professors, for example in research," Professor Dr. Jean Meyer explained. "In addition, we are tapping the promising potential which India offers as a rapidly developing country." Strategic cooperations like this one offered a sustainable added value.

The RVCE delegation also visited the company Schaeffler Technologies AG & Co. KG in Schweinfurt that closely cooperates with THWS. "As a family company rooted in the region and yet acting globally, we exactly understand the decisive role of innovative engineering and international cooperation," says Alexander B. Wurst, Vice President Process Development & Digitalization Bearings and Industrial at Schaeffler.

The cooperation between THWS and RVCE embodied the same commitment and facilitated not only academic exchange but also the attraction of skilled professionals, said Alexander B. Wurst. “We are looking forward to shaping the guiding impulses in our region and promoting young talents in the future.” The RVCE delegation then exchanged with their students and THWS students.

Varied programme for THWS members in the afternoon

The diverse programme in the afternoon was aimed at all THWS members and students. Professor Dr. Isabel John, Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems, and Aylin Chaban, HSIN, delivered an intercultural training on India together we student Rushil Nagpal. Rushil has been a student at THWS in Schweinfurt for two years now. He offered insights into the different religions, holidays, and rituals in his home country. A quiz about languages, food, and sights in India was part of the intercultural training.

In her presentation on mobility within the Erasmus+ programme, Maike Antlitz, HSIN, spoke about "Experiencing India: Opportunities of international mobility of students, lecturers, and higher education staff". She explained the possibilities of higher education staff for visiting strategic partner universities.

Nataliya Kudelya, HSIN, introduced visitors to Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicine. The India Day was rounded off with an Indian movie.

THWS Alumni Board

Tina Müller, project coordinator of Alumni THWS linked her contribution during the India Day with the opening of the Alumni Board at RVCE in November 2024 and the first "Meet & Greet" in February 2025. The India Board serves as a platform for worldwide exchange among THWS alumni. The growing Indian alumni community is of particular importance as Indian students make up a major share of THWS' international students.

The background of the university partnership
RVCE is located in Bangalore (Bengaluru), capital of the federal state Karnataka in South India. One of the central aspects of the cooperation between THWS and RVCE is a cooperatively organised programme that prepares prospective students from India for English-taught bachelor's degree programmes (TWIN programmes) at THWS. This aims to contribute to countering the skilled worker shortage and thus demographic change in Lower Franconia.
