Professor Wolfgang Maria Fischer Stiftung awards scholarship to THWS master’s student

Rocio Senger has received her second one-year scholarship for her master’s studies in Digital Business Systems

Rocio Senger has received a second scholarship: The foundation Professor Wolfgang Maria Fischer Stiftung awarded another scholarship to the student at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS). The 35-year old is currently in her fifth semester of the master's programme Digital Business Systems. She already completed her bachelor's degree in Business Information Systems at THWS.

The scholarship constitutes a monthly payment of 500 euros for the duration of one year. The foundation explicitly promotes female students in the computer science programmes at THWS. Applicants must provide proof of financial need, for example in the form of a BAFöG certificate. In addition, one of the following three requirements must be met:

-        Students have completed their bachelor's degree in Computer Science at THWS and are currently studying in one of THWS' master's programmes

-        They are students in the bachelor's degree programme Computer Science and have at least one child

-        They study the bachelor's degree programme Computer Science in the final three semesters

Scholarship recipient Rocio Senger is happy: "The scholarship means much more to me than just financial support - it gives me the opportunity to successfully continue my studies despite the challenges of being a mother of two. For me, education is the key to a better future, both for me and for my children. The sponsorship enables me to pursue my professional goals with even greater determination."

During the awarding of the scholarship certificate, THWS President Professor Dr. Jean Meyer expressed his gratitude: "The scholarship of the foundation Professor Wolfgang Maria Fischer Stiftung, does not only provide financial support but above all with appreciation. We are delighted for the award winner and are very grateful to the donors for their charitable commitment."

About the foundation Professor Wolfgang Maria Fischer Stiftung

About 20 years ago, the foundation Professor Wolfgang Maria Fischer Stiftung was established by Professor Wolfgang Fischer and his wife Maria Fischer-Flach. Their motivation was to support the education of qualified students in the bachelor's degree programme Computer Science. In 2008, Maria Fischer-Flach contributed a property as a donation to the foundation to exclusively support female students.

From 1959 to 1986, Professor Wolfgang Fischer worked at the Balthasar-Neumann Polytechnic and at the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt as instructor and professor. In 1975, he played a crucial part in the establishment of the degree course Computer Science. He was also responsible for its development. He documented his connectedness to THWS and computer sciences by establishing the foundation.

After Professor Fischer's death in 2003, his wife continued the foundation's work. Since her death two years ago, no member of the Fischer family is left to act in the foundation council, but the funding continues. The foundation council consists of the THWS president, the chancellor, and the dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Business Information Systems.
