AI research in the spotlight: Two members of the Bundestag visit CAIRO at THWS

The Centre for Artificial Intelligence (CAIRO) at Technical University of Applied Sciences Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS) was delighted to receive a visit from two members of the German Bundestag, Stephan Thomae and Ulrich Lechte. As part of their summer tour, the two MPs are travelling through Bavaria to find out about the latest scientific developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).
 
 
The visit began with a warm reception over drinks and snacks in the CAIRO building. It was an opportunity for the guests to have an informal chat with some of the key figures at CAIRO before diving into a series of insightful presentations.
 
Prof Dr Pascal Meißner, Deputy Director of CAIRO and Programme Director of the AI Master's programme (MAI), began by giving an overview of CAIRO's latest research work. This was followed by a Q&A session in which the MPs were given deeper insights into the challenges and opportunities of the research center. Later, Prof Dr Arndt Balzer took over to present the KI Transfer+ project, which focuses on bridging the gap between AI research and industrial applications.
 
Afterwards, the young talents from MAI provided insights into their work. Sandro Paval started by presenting his bachelor's thesis. Vishnu Prasad Vijaya Kumar presented his AI nurse start-up project, an innovative approach to the integration of AI in healthcare. The presentation of Esther Ademola's Master's thesis was the final academic highlight.
 
The MPs experienced first-hand how theoretical advances are translated into real-world solutions and had the opportunity to discuss the status, potential, and risks of artificial intelligence in Bavaria and Germany with our research experts at CAIRO. Stephan Thomae and Ulrich Lechte expressed their gratitude for the comprehensive overview.
