Artificial Intelligence Research Boosted by New Computing Capacities
THWS and JMU have signed a cooperation agreement for the new High-Performance Computing cluster "Julia-2" (link to the official press release).
We in CAIRO are double happy: It has been over a year since we have first started discussing the idea with the JMU/CAIDAS and the JMU/HPC-Center and we are glad that in the end we have been able to extend the agreement to benefit the whole THWS community. For us in CAIRO access to computational resources is critical for our research and Julia-2 provides a very welcome solution. We believe that other AI researchers around THWS will feel similarly.
This is, however, only one part of the story. A lot remains to be done. Julia-2 is not yet operational. Hardware and software is being installed as we write these lines. CAIRO will continue to contribute as it shall collaborate with JMU/HPC on Julia-2 administration. By the way, we shall be recruiting for this position shortly. If you feel qualified, keep tuned to our career announcements.
