Julia 2: A New Chapter for AI Research in Würzburg
Yesterday, Prof. Dr. Ivan Yamshchikov, Head of CAIRO, and Leon Heller, CAIRO IT Specialist, attended the opening ceremony of Julia 2, a high-performance computing cluster that marks a significant step forward for AI research.
Developed as a joint project between Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg (JMU) and Technische Hochschule Würzburg-Schweinfurt (THWS), Julia 2 provides powerful resources for high-level research.
With over 150 GPUs and a state-of-the-art cooling system, this infrastructure will support complex computations essential for AI and robotics projects. For CAIRO, Julia 2 opens up new possibilities — enabling us to tackle ambitious projects, train large models, and collaborate on innovative solutions with the CAIDAS team at JMU.
This partnership strengthens Würzburg’s position as a hub for AI development and showcases the power of cooperation between institutions. We’re excited to see where Julia2 will take us and what achievements lie ahead.
