Reasearch Projects
Several colleagues working on theoretical and experimental aspects of material characterization joined the Center of Material Science.
The experimental research includes Raman and IR Spectroscopy, Rheology, and Tribology.
The theoretical research spans over several time and dimension scales, from quantum chemistry to macroscopic simulations.
The Center of Material Science is embedded within the Institute of Power Engineering and High Voltage Technology, offering a highly interdisciplinary working environment.
Free phD position available on high voltage material science
Next-generation energy transmission relies on high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable lines. However, dielectrics under HVDC fields exhibit charge carrier formations, resulting in electric field losses and, in the worst cases, dielectric breakdown.
Understanding charge formations at the molecular level is still limited.
The prospect of the assigned PhD position at the Centre of Material Science at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wurzburg-Schweinfurt is to study HVDC- driven charge carrier dynamics within silicone dielectrics.
The dynamics at the molecular level will be investigated using a novel approach combining Raman spectroscopy and the Pulsed Electro-Acoustic (PEA) method.
The position includes close collaboration with an industrial partner.
The Centre of Material Science is embedded within the Institute of Power Engineering and High Voltage Technology, offering a highly interdisciplinary working environment.
The position will be assigned to our campus in the city of Schweinfurt. It is on the E13 level of the German Civil Service pay scale (TV-L) and will be available from October 1st, 2024, for a period of 3 years. Initially it will only be a part-time position (50%). However, we are currently actively looking for opportunities to convert it into a 75% or 100% position as soon as possible.
The successful candidate should hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in material science, electric engineering, chemistry or a related subject.
